Generic Flow

Completion of shutdown checklist:

  • Company COM1
  • Speaker up

  • iPad - Deactivate flight mode, complete EFL:
    • Hours (night / IF),
    • Approaches,
    • FoB,
    • Ceate new sector

  • NAIPS - update Wx using SPFIB (note - will only provide updates to original, but check for new NOTAMs etc). Check destination requirements (DO WE NEED FUEL?)

  • Flaps - New trim:
    • Flight No, sectors, FoB, FF, Freight, Survival Kit, SET, DG, Bags
    • Import pax

  • TOLD Cards - update AWIS (VHF), select RWY

  • OzRwys - charts, performance tables, ground movement charts

  • EXT PWR -
    • Battery Cart - HOLD until pax start walking out
    • 3 Phase / GPU - connect immediately to initalise avionics / FMS
    • Set up Navaids, ADSB, course bars, RMI

  • Conduct pre-start scan action flow

  • Time Permitting - get out of seat, walk around, clean cabin

  • Flight Closed
    • FLAPS trim, send to FA
    • Complete T/O performance data
    • When getting CTOT setting, set straight away

  • Boarding - tolerance ±3 min, for outports:
    • -10 min light loads
    • -15 min heavy loads

  • Brief - if possible (aim to do NAVAIDs brief after)

  • Starting
    • Brief FO on updated weather (i.e. ATIS / AWIS for departure and arrival) and how it will impact the flight (requirements, fuel, turbulence, seating the FA, etc)
    • Check prop strap inside
    • Cross TOLD card after each step:
      • Cross beacon on when chocks removed
      • Cross off blocks when thumbs up received
      • Cross airborne when takeoff clearance (and/or shut whisky hatch)

  • Approach / Landing - select and favorite the apron movement charts / domestic parking for quick access

Keep in Mind

  • Which way to turn off bay?
  • Lights when crossing runways
  • Line up checklist - ensure hand is moved to gust lock release
  • T Scan / Aviate Navigate Communicate:
    • A/H + modes,
    • IAS,
    • Alt (inc. QNH) + VSI (then check Tq / temps),
    • Nav (check wind vector and temp to note info at current passing altitude) + radar modes
    • Comms (ensure FO completes 25nm call on correct CTAF freq)
  • Include the FO in decision making, especially fuel. "Are you happy 1800kg, that will cover us with the tempo" etc
  • When you get new weather, inform the crew, how this will impact the flight (requirements, fuel, turbulence, seating the FA, etc)
  • When briefing the approach chart, when stating airport elevation, check landing pressure alt has been set correctly

One possible fault is a failure of the starter pickup signal - hung start at approximately 55%Ng, or if the IGN light does not go out and it is not possible to reset the generator after start.
